How Smart Lights and a Smart Thermostat Make Everyday Life Easier

Between work, family, and everything else on our schedules, I appreciate technology that makes everyday tasks a little easier. In our home, that includes our smart thermostat and lights. We use them when we’re out of town, out to dinner, or just moving through a regular day.

You don’t have to automate your entire house to enjoy the convenience. Here’s how we use these two tools.

Smart Lights: No More Leaving the Lights On All Day

Before smart lights, we would have to leave our front lights on during the day if we wanted them on when we got home after dark. Now, we can turn them on remotely when it gets dark, even if we’re still out enjoying dinner or away on a trip.

You can also set a schedule for the lights to turn on and off. That’s one less thing to remember when you’re getting ready to leave or winding down for the night.

I also use a smart light bulb in my son’s room. I can turn his light on for him without having to walk him to his room. It’s a small convenience, but it comes in handy.

A Smart Thermostat: Adjust the Temperature From Wherever You Are

Our thermostat works through Honeywell Home, which allows us to control it remotely. Being able to adjust the temperature while we’re away is especially helpful when we’re out of town.

You can also program a temperature schedule around your routine, including when you wake up, leave the house, or go to bed. Instead of remembering to make each adjustment, you can set the schedule ahead of time.

Start With What Would Help You Most

For me, smart home technology doesn’t have to be complicated. Turning on the front lights before we get home or adjusting the thermostat while we’re away is useful enough.

If you’re interested in getting started, think about a task you regularly forget or wish you could handle from your phone. A smart light or thermostat may be a simple place to begin.
